Last night I rolled out a new theme for Left The Box. The old one seemed too cluttered and I needed a more reader friendly theme. I usually don’t buy themes but I’m glad I did this time. Although, the Thesis theme is more of a template or skeleton that you have to style and fix, the back-end is amazing.
The best part of the Thesis theme is that all the code is optimized for search engines. Not only that, but it’s so easy to use. If you’re a new blogger or looking to start one for your business this theme may be a better investment than a poorly written, free theme.
Once you get the theme it’s easy to customize. The designer created a “custom” folder with a css file and function file to separate changes from the core theme. This way, when you upgrade to the latest release of Thesis you won’t lose all your changes.
I’ve only had a single problem with the theme but thanks to the support it’s being changed right now. I couldn’t find a way to get my Mint analytic script to work with the theme correctly. I’m working with the designer to find a fix to the problem.
Other than the minor issue, I really liked working with the Thesis theme. It was easy to customize because of the hooks added, and the fact that everything can be added as a custom php function. Also, the support forum has code examples and tutorials on how to change things like the favicon, background, and header image, plus more.
My only suggestion to people buying this theme is to invest in the personal license instead of the developer one. The personal license costs $87 but requires you to keep the Thesis link in the footer and only allows you to use it for one site, or you can pay $164 and use the theme on unlimited sites with the developer license. Truthfully, the link is unobtrusive and for some might even be a badge of honor. The only reason why I bought the developer license was because I’m using it it one more than one blog.
So far I’ve been really happy with it. The theme is attractive, easy to customize, and loads quickly. If you’ve been thinking about changing your blog theme or creating a blog you should definitely check out this theme.
