It’s often repeated that commenting on other people’s blogs helps you become part of the community and will convince people to comments on your blog. The thing is, that I didn’t understand how it convinced other people to comment on blogs, until I started doing it myself.
That’s when I realized when you leave a comment on many blogs, the comment form gets shown below your comment. This forces people, who like to leave comments, to scroll past your comment before they can write on themselves.

The more often you comment, or the more interesting your comment, the more likely that someone stops to read what you’ve written and follow back your link. It’s important to remember that these people are willing to leave comments since they were scrolling down to leave one on the site you already left a comment.
